Safari holidays Zimbabwe - Overview

Luxury Wildlife Safaris and Holidays

Zimbabwe is a landlocked country sharing borders with BotswanaZambia, Mozambique and South Africa. It has a land mass of almost 400,000 square kilometres which is slightly larger than the state of Montana. The country lies between 160 meters and 2,592 meters above sea level with much of the country being a high plateau or high veld with mountainous regions stretching across the east. The Zambezi River, which forms the border with Zambia, is the main river and one of the main tourist attractions for the country. After plummeting over the Victoria Falls, the Zambezi River flows through the Batoka Gorge before spilling into Lake Kariba which is over 220 kilometres long. After the dam wall the Zambezi River mellows out and slowly snakes it way through the Zambezi Valley before flowing into Mozambique and finally the Indian Ocean.

Zimbabwe has several tribes with the Shona making up 80 – 84% of the population and Ndebele making up 10 – 15%. English, Shona and Ndebele make up the three main languages spoken with a small minority speaking other local languages.

In general Zimbabweans are warm, friendly and welcoming people who are crying for tourists to return to their beautiful country.

World Big Cat Safaris organises tailor made and small group Zimbabwean Safaris to visit some of the main highlights which include Hwange National Park, Victoria Falls, Mana Pools National Park, Matusadona National Park, Matobo Hills National park and the Great Zimbabwe Ruins.

What to Expect on your Zimbabwe Safari: The infrastructure in Zimbabwe is of a good standard and generally road transfers are smooth and on time. Some areas are more remote and require a short charter flight by light aircraft. These are usually on time and run without hassle; on the odd occasions when they are late please take this in your stride as there are often valid reasons. The areas that you are visiting are remote and therefore Zimbabwe as a destination can on occasions be expensive however you can rest assured that you will be visiting some of the most unique wildlife safari regions on the continent. Accommodation in Zimbabawe varies in standard and at World Big Cat Safaris we aim to blend the ideal standard of accommodation with the best Zimbabwe safari possible throughout your holiday.
