Shumba Camp

The 6 luxury safari tents that make up the camp at Shumba are in the middle of the Busanga Plains in the Kafue National Park on an island of large fig trees. The tents are all raised on raised platforms offering views over the surrounding plains. Each tent has ensuite facilities including indoor and outdoor showers. Meals are often cooked on the fire in front of guests adding to the “safari” experience.

Style: A premier safari camp with grass and thatched roofs helping it blend effortlessly with its environment, despite how open it is here. The camp is spread out an elevated on wooden walkways.

 

Setting: Shumba Camp is in the centre of Busanga Plains, meaning fantastic 360 degree views of the floodplains.

 

Accommodation & Facilities: The 6 spacious tents are all built above the ground on wooden platforms and built using a solid wood and pole structure. The walls and ceiling are canvas, and one of the walls can be rolled up for uninterrupted views of the plains and the wildlife grazing on them, such as antelope. Each tent has a private wooden deck with sunken seating and comfy cushions. The en-suite bathrooms include twin basins, a large shower, full length mirror and complimentary toiletries. They each also have an outdoor shower with a fantastic view!

 

The main area is also elevated and includes a dining area and bar. There is also a nice spacious lounge and library. There is a sunken campfire and pool in the deck and the view of the sunrise from here is not to be missed!

 

Dining: The camp provides a fantastic dining experience, food is varied yet equally delicious and can be served in the boma, on the deck on in the dining room.

 

Activities: Day and night game drives are the main focus, water based activities such as boat trips are available if the water level is high enough. Shumba camp actually has a swamp boat with a specially adapted motor allowing it to go through water levels as low as 6 inches. Short walking safaris are also available depending on season.

 

Child Policy: No children under 8. Please bear in mind that the cmap is unfenced and therefore dangerous, children must be supervised at all times.
