Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma, Victoria Falls

Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma

Spectacularly located on a dramatic bend of the Zambezi River, Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma is an enchanting river retreat with stunning views and fantastic wildlife. This peaceful, private and inspiring location is perfect for excursions to Victoria Falls and is in the heart of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park (‘The Smoke That Thunders’ – literally translated).

The Sanctuary is named after explorer, David Livingstone’s, friends who made a faithful and epic march to transport him back to the United Kingdom after his death.

  • Swimming Pool
  • Children Welcome (restrictions apply - please see Child Policy below)
  • Great for excursions to Victoria Falls and the chance to see white rhino

Style: Wonderfully luxurious and upmarket lodge in close proximity to Victoria Falls.

Setting: Just ten minutes upstream of Victoria Falls Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma is set in the canopy of ebony trees that line the Zambezi.

Accommodation & Facilities: Sussi Lodge consists of 12 luxury tree-houses built into the canopy lining the edge of the Zambezi River. Each tree house has their own private view of the river from their exclusive deck. The doors opening out onto this are folding and can be opened fully for a spectacular panoramic vista, straight from the bed! Bathrooms are en-suite, with large baths and a separate shower. Rooms come complete with mosquito nets, hair dryers, ceiling fans and a mini bar, for those private sundowners.

The tree-houses have access to a spectacular pool, which appears to blend seamlessly into the Zambezi. They are connected via canopy level walkways to the main lodge, which is set on 2 levels. There is a main seating area, bar and deck, which are raised to maximise your viewing opportunities, enhancing the, already spectacular view.

There are 2 spacious houses, each with 2 bedrooms, which make up Chuma House. These are ideal for families, with a spacious lounge, dining area and kitchenette – these houses also have a private swimming pool.

Dining: Food is served alfresco wherever possible; the dining area is outdoors and evening meals are more often than not served around a roaring camp fire. The camp provides 3 meals per day, the timings for these depend on the day’s activities and the wildlife.

Activities: Game drives are led by highly trained guides in custom built 4WD vehicles. A walking tour of Victoria Falls is included in your stay as well as a tour of the local village, where you will meet some of the 3,000 locals living in brick and mud houses. There is also the option of a spectacular sundowner cruise where a specially made boat will take you down the river (through grade 2 rapids) to a secluded beach to watch the sun go down with a cocktail or a glass of wine. A thrilling and truly unforgettable one-off experience.

Additional activities include white water rafting, elephant back safaris, Livingstone Island visits and the Flight of the Angels – a helicopter ride over Victoria Falls. There are also spa treatments available back at the lodge.

Child Policy: Children of any age are welcome to stay at Chuma House, however they must be aged 9 or over to stay at Sussi Lodge
