Tanzania Northern Highlights and Beach Safari

Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti and Beach - A 12 Day Safari - From £2,600 per person sharing

Day 1

Morning arrival into Kilimanjaro International Airport, (we recommend a morning flight arrival). Met at the airport by our local representative and transfer by road to Tarangire National Park, pack lunch provided. When you reach the park stop for a picnic lunch and then go for a game drive and wildlife spotting before heading out to the delightful Maramboi Camp. This is permanent tented camp with endless vistas of rolling golden grasslands and palm lined desert between Tarangire and Manyara Lake.

Overnight: Maramboi Camp – 10 tents spacious tents on generous, ample wooden decks. They all have en suite facilities and private veranda (L/D)

Day 2

A full day to spend in Tarangire National Park, famed for its elephants, birds and a host of other wildlife that congregate along the Tarangire River. The big cats are never far away but in this bush terrain it can be a little tricky to spot them. Game drives in private closed sided 4x4 safari vehicle with hatch-top roof. As Maramboi is outside the park other activities on offer include: guided walking safaris, bird watching on the shores of the not too distant Lake Manyara and cultural interaction with Datoga and Maasai, whose bomas populate the adjacent land.

Day 3

Today you will depart Maramboi Camp and head for the famed Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park. After breakfast you will drive overland to Lake Manyara. Upon your arrival you will head out for a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, which is famed for its elephants, birds, primates and tree climbing lions! Picnic lunch provided. Spend the afternoon game driving through the park before heading, in the late afternoon, to your lodge for the night in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Private game drives.

Overnight: Ngorongoro Framhouse / Tloma Lodge – Ngorongoro Farmhouse is a small and exclusive lodge facing the Oldeani Volcano. There 40 huge cottages with ample space inside, built on the style of an old colonial farm and rustically decorated with local materials and crafts giving a feel for life of the days gone (B/L/D)

Day 4

This morning you will head to the famed Ngorongoro Crater for game drives. The crater is one of the few places in Tanzania where you can reliable see black rhino and many old tuskers, who come to spend their retirement peacefully feeding in the Gorigor swamp. You can enjoy a picnic lunch at Ngoitokitok Springs, where hippos wallow and Black Kites might nab your lunch (beware!). Picnic lunch provided. In the afternoon you will leave the crater and drive to the teeming Serengeti plains. If you haven’t already, stop for lunch, and depending on time it may be possible to visit Olduvai Gorge en route and Masai village. Arrive in the late afternoon/ early evening for drinks around the camp fire at your Serengeti base camp, for the next three nights. Private game drive.

Overnight: Serengeti Mobile Camp - Mobile Camps Offers the guests the perfect balance between comfort, privacy and splendid isolation. There nine spacious tents that are fully furnished with either King Size bed or twin beds, en suite facilities, including flush toilet, wash basin with running water and bucket shower inside. Meals are served in a separate mess tent although dinning is usually served outside weather permitting (B/L/D)

Days 5-6

Two full days for game drives in the Serengeti, in search of the migratory herds, predators and a host of other wildlife. The Serengeti is one of the best places in Africa to see all the ‘Big Cats’ and the remarkable annual wildebeest and zebra migration.

The Serengeti Mobile Camp has four different locations during the year according to the movement of the wildlife. Allowing guests to be located close to the Migration. From December to March one camp will be located in the southern plains, from May to August the one camp in the central the central park and one in the western corridor and from August to November in the north, offering the guest the best experience of a traditional Mobile Classic Safari Camp. Nevertheless the location might change depending on the movements of the Migration. These dates are approximate as the migration movements do vary from year to year thus allowing guests to be “there” just where the action is during the months of the Migration in Serengeti.

Day 7

After an early morning game drive or a leisurely breakfast transfer to the Seronera airstrip to catch a scheduled flight to Zanzibar (11:00/14:15hrs). Met at Zanzibar airport and transfer to the Pongwe Beach Lodge located on the east coast of Zanzibar. Settle into your rooms for the next few nights, on half-board basis. Relax on the beach, by the pool or at your hotel, or you can take a day or two to explore more of Zanzibar.

Overnight: Pongwe Beach Lodge: This delightful lodge is situated on the east coast of Zanzibar. It is set amongst some of the finest white sandy beaches on the island. Its 16 Zanzibarian cottages are built from local materials, with traditional lime wash walls, and thatched roofs made from woven palm leaves and are surrounded by lush tropical gardens. You will find various local hand crafted Zanzibarian doors and traditional beds. All cottages have en suite bathrooms, with Moroccan style walk in showers. Each cottage also has its own private terrace where guests may enjoy the sunrise and a leisurely breakfast. The staff are friendly and attentive and the lodge specializes in serving the finest fresh seafood. This makes Pongwe a wonderful tropical paradise to relax and enjoy a host of water activities (B/D)

Days 8-11

Days at leisure to relax on the beach or explore Zanzibar. Your stay here is on a half board basis.

Day 12

Departure Day. Transfer to Zanzibar airport in time to catch an international flight home (B)
