In an isolated section of the Selous Game Reserve on the banks of the Luwego River sits an authentic wilderness retreat made up of just 4 luxury tents. Spaced out under a large shady forest, characterised by fig and sausage trees, the accommodation is naturally air conditioned and cool, perfect after a hard day out in the wild. There are no schedules or itineraries here, just your imagination and a wide variety of activities designed to get you as close as possible to the wildlife.

The camps main focus is connecting with wildlife and nature, guides employ old hunting techniques to get you as close to the animals as possible without them noticing and even on game drives you will often leave your vehicle to get up close and personal. The area is teeming with wildlife and has a large population of elephant, buffalo and lion readily available for you to discover.

Style: A luxurious and comfortable camp with an authentic and rustic safari feel.

Setting: None of the camps structures are permanent, meaning it can be moved if necessary every season. However it is usually found on the shady banks of the Luwego River in a private reserve of 300,000 acres within the Selous Game Reserve, Southern Tanzania - a location renowned for its abundance of wildlife, wide flood plains and sprawling savannah.

Accommodation & Facilities: The 4 luxury tents sleep up to 8 people and are all large, spacious and comfortable. Each tent is decorated with furniture handcrafted from recycled hardwood, brass and canvas and feature a writing desk in keeping with this campaign style. Tents are carpeted with full length mirrors and free standing antique looking fans. En-suite bathrooms feature a large dressing area, vanity stand and double basins as well as a flush toilets and 200 litre bucket shower, complete with a copper rain head. Hot water is 24 hours a day on request.

The guest tents are all spaced out down the banks of the river, connected to the main area via sandy paths winding between them. The main dining area, in the shade, is above the river and features wonderful views; adjacent to this is a lounge area with large cushions on the floor and comfortable leather armchairs. There is also a ‘diwan’ that stretches out onto a veranda, the perfect spot to sit and reflect on the days activities. Out the front of this main area is the camp fire, a very authentic and social way to share the days stories and experiences!

Dining: Cuisine is beautifully created using natural, local ingredients and can be enjoyed almost everywhere; from the dining tent, to out in the bush. Dinners are usually a sumptuous feast consisting of 3 courses. Due to the remote location of the camp specific dietary requirements need to be handled well in advance.

Activities: Game drives in a 4x4; these are used, usually, just to get you to the wildlife. You will often leave the vehicle and approach on foot. Walking safaris are a fantastic way of getting up close and personal, you can walk for just a few hours or arrange a walking and canoe safari over numerous days staying at connecting fly camps. There are temporary hides set up, fantastic for observing wildlife naturally without disturbing it. As well as all this you can also fish for catfish and tigerfish and enjoy a massage back at camp. It can also be arranged for a copper bath to be set up in the middle of the river, so you can enjoy a sundowner in absolute unique privacy!

Responsible Travel: The camp uses 100% solar power and grey water is safely filtered back into the environment. Care was take to make very little disturbance to the natural surroundings when it was constructed. The camp also has initiatives to stop trophy hunting and increase employment opportunities for the local people, and indeed the staff are mainly from the surrounding area.
