The majority of people these days automatically think of Africa when considering a wildlife holiday…well Sri Lanka puts a stop to this as it offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Asia if not the world! The renowned Elephant Gathering in Minneriya National Park, the highest density of leopards in the world in Yala National Park and some fantastic whale watching (Blue Whales, Dolphins and more!) from the Port of Mirissa!
Aside from a wildlife holiday in Sri Lanka there are a multitude of other attractions and highlights that we can offer as well. The cultural attractions of Sri Lanka are mind boggling with one of the prime areas being known as The Cultural Triangle which links the ancient cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruva and Kandy with the ancient Rock Palace of Sigiriya located at the centre. Linking these ancient cities with some fantastic game viewing can only be complimented with some excellent beach time at the end of your holiday, staying at one of the lovely boutique retreats with world class spa treatments.
What to Expect on your Sri Lankan Holiday: If you are a keen African wildlife enthusiast please do not expect the volume and frequency of wildlife that you would see in a number of African destinations. Sri Lanka is a tropical island with limited road systems and an “improving infrastructure”. As an island, Sri Lanka has a huge amount to offer the international traveller, however the standard of hotels and lodges in the National Parks are still only of 3 star standard. World Big Cat Safaris however has access to some beautiful boutique lodges for that ultimate beach relaxation at the end of your wildlife holiday. In the wildlife parks themselves, wildlife viewing centres mainly around one or two main wildlife attractions rather than a “Big Five” as you would expect in Africa. Yala National Park does however offer a unique global experience in that you specifically enter the park to track leopards; this is not even done in Africa where you are deemed lucky to see leopard in the wild as they are so secretive…
