Thonga Beach Lodge, Kwa-Zulu Natal Coastline

Thonga Beach Lodge

Thonga Beach Lodge has been built into the coastal dunes above a private beach along the Kwa-Zulu Natal’s north coast. The 12 chalets have been built on stilts to minimise the impact on the environment and still offer tranquil privacy for its guests. The main lodge area consists of a thatched rondaval where guests can enjoy sumptuous meals and a swimming pool and beach bar.

  • 12 bungalows
  • Swimming pool
  • All children welcome

Style: A romantic, luxury hideaway above a private sandy beach.

Setting: Next to the pristine wilderness beach of Maputaland in a coastal dune forest, the lodge was build to blend naturally into the environment.

Accommodation & Facilities: The 12 circular wooden chalets have a light and airy feel and are all air conditioned. Each one is inspired by traditional Thonga village huts; they have thatched roofs and are built on stilts so to minimise the effect on the sensitive dune soils. They have glass, bleached wood and natural materials in the décor and they are carefully positioned to ensure privacy for guests. Bathrooms are en-suite with a shower, bath and twin basins.

The Lounge is cosy and comfortable with a nice fireplace and fantastic views over the Indian Ocean and the surrounding forest. Below this is the dining area which stretched out onto an expansive wooden deck, great for relaxing after a days activities.

Other facilities include a swimming pool, ocean bar and a rejuvenation centre.

Dining: Sumptuous, elegant meals are usually served outside or in the dining area. Guests are free to take their meals down to the beach to enjoy romantic candlelit dinners with the sounds of the ocean lapping on the shore.

Activities: The area offers spectacular snorkelling and diving, with around 1,250 different fish species as well as sharks and dolphins. There is also kayaking, bird watching, cultural experiences and Zulu dancing and singing can be organised in the lodge in the evenings.

Child Policy: All children are welcome at Thonga Beach Lodge.
