Overview - Snow Leopard Safaris
World Big Cat Safaris offers small group snow leopard safaris and private tailor-made trips to the Indian Himalayas to track the endangered snow leopard.
The snow leopard is one of the rarest big cats in the world, with only about 6,000 to 7,000 animals living in the Central Asian Mountains.
Poachers target these beautiful cats for their thick coats as well as their organs which are used in traditional Chinese medicines. Although they live in very remote areas of Asia they still come into contact with local herdsmen who on occasions have been known to kill them to protect their livestock.
One of the best areas to see the snow leopard is around the mountainous regions of Ladakh in Himalayan India. During the winter months snow leopards move to lower altitudes as they follow their prey to their feeding grounds. This gives us the best opportunity to see these elusive cats.
Snow leopard safaris are hard work in very cold conditions and this should be taken into consideration when booking. Accommodation is in tented camps and local home stays.
Due to the remoteness of the region and the logistics and services that we have to employ in order to guarantee our high level of services, snow leopard safaris are not cheap. But you will be guaranteed an exciting trip of a lifetime.
