Day 2
Today your adventure starts with an early wake up and breakfast before heading off to the airport where you will meet your pilot and guide. The Schoeman brothers grew up exploring the Skeleton Coast with their father who was one of the pioneers of eco tourism along the Skeleton Coast and was instrumental in getting the area proclaimed a national park back in the 70s. Today one the brothers will fly and guide you along the coast, which is scattered with whale bones and rusting ship wrecks, to their secrets spots of interest. Your morning flight will take you south to the Sossusvlei dunes which tower over 300 meters above your head. Here you will have the opportunity to climb up some of the highest sand dunes in the world where you can look out over the Namib Desert. After exerting some energy you will continue north along the coast stopping in Swakopmund to refuel before continuing. Lunch is eaten on a deserted stretch of beach just north of the Cape Cross Seal Colony. After lunch you will head inland over the moon landscape of black ridges starkly contrasted against the white desert floor.
Overnight: Kuidas Camp – A private camp set in the Huab River Valley. Each of the large dome tents is surrounded by reed walls and a thatch roof. There is a bucket shower and a chemical toilet at the rear of the tent and two flush loos close to the communal area (B/L/D)
Day 3
After breakfast you will head out in Land Drovers to explore the red lava and yellow sand stone of the Huab River where you will be able to enjoy the wildlife and interesting plants that survive here. You will have lunch at camp before
flying back along the coast to Terrace Bay in the Skeleton Coast National Park. On the way you will visit some of the ship wrecks along the coast. After landing on the beach you will access the roaring dunes by Land Drover before exploring the colourful pebbled beach scattered with bleached whale bones. Following this land exploration, you will head back to the plane and will continue north to your next camp in Purros.
Overnight: Purros Camp – A similar setup at the previous camp with large dome tents, twin beds, a bucket shower and chemical toilet. There is a communal eating area and two flush loos for guest use (B/L/D)
Day 4
After breakfast you will drive along the Hoarusib Valley to visit one of the nomadic Himba tribes that still live a traditional lifestyle in the deserts of Namibia. You may even be lucky enough to see the desert adapted elephants that live in this area. From here you fly further north to the Kunen River which forms the border with Angola. Before reaching your final destination you explore the many ship wrecks that lie scattered along the coast. Lunch is eaten at one of the favourite sites in the middle of the dunes and mountains of northern Namibia.
Overnight: Kunene Camp – Again in the same style as the previous two camps, but this time the camp is on a ridge overlooking the beautiful Kunene River (B/L/D)
Day 5
Following an early morning river trip to see the birds and maybe some crocodiles, you will head back to the camp for lunch. After lunch you will fly back to Windhoek, arriving late afternoon, where you will be met and transferred back to the Elegant Guesthouse. The evening is yours to relax.
