Etosha National Park Vacations – A Namibia Vacation will always involve a visit to this flat and dry park, which is one of the largest National Parks in Southern Africa and offers a totally different wildlife experience from other countries. There is a large salt pan in the north of the park that sometimes fills with water (during the rainy season), attracting flamingos and other water birds but generally it is very dry and water is scarce. There are several man made waterholes that attract a host of animals and it is not uncommon to have hundred of animals drinking at the same time. Large Black maned lions and cheetah are common, as are the endangered black rhino. Fish River Canyon Vacations – A Namibia vacation is varied due to the many scenic locations on offer like the second largest canyon in the world which lies in the southern part of the country. It is a great area for hiking with several options available for day hikes to treks lasting several days long. In Ai-Ais there are natural hot springs where you can soothe your aching muscles in the open air pools. Even if you are not into hiking this is still a highlight on any Namibia Holiday.

Sossusvlei Vacations – Some of the highest sand dunes in the world occur in the Namib Desert in the area of Sossusvlei. These red sand dunes rise above the desert floor up to 300 meters high – just inviting you to scale the dizzy heights to get an amazing view of the surrounding desert. Not far from this desert is Sesriem canyon which has been used for years as a watering hole for thirsty travellers, their horses and oxen and a walk through the canyon reveals some strange rock formations. There are no towns or cities close to Sossusvlei and so the night’s sky offers you the some of the best star gazing in the world.

Swakopmund Vacations – Nestled between the Namib Desert and the treacherous Atlantic Ocean, Swakopmund is surprisingly green with its many palmed lined streets, tropical flower gardens with green lawns and old picturesque German style buildings. It is Namibia’s premium tourist resort town due to its mild and constant weather, making it an idea stop during your Namibia vacation. Damaraland and Kaokoveld Vacations – These prehistoric water courses offer some of the most scenic areas in Namibia with open plains, grassland, granite koppies and distant mountains. The dry river beds are home to herds of desert elephants that have adapted to living in these harsh habitats where water and food are scarce. A highlight during a vacation to Namibia is to track the endangered black rhino on foot with an armed ranger.

Caprivi Strip Vacations – In the far north east corner of Namibia is a “finger” of land that juts out above Botswana, known as the Caprivi Strip. The Kwando, Okavango and Zambezi Rivers all flow through the Caprivi Strip making it very lush and green, attracting large herds of elephant and buffalo. This is the only place that you can see buffalo on your vacation and provides some stunning game viewing opportunities.

Africat Foundation Vacations – The Africat Foundation is a non profit organisation and was set up to rescue and rehabilitate cheetah, leopard, lion and wild dog that have been captured or orphaned by local farmers. With the largest population of free roaming cheetah in Africa most of the cats end up on these farms where they are seen as vermin and are often shot. Africat works with the farmers to prevent them from shooting “problem” animals. They are provided with spring loaded cage traps to capture cheetah, leopard and wild dog, giving Africat the chance to relocate them to protected areas where they can hunt freely. A Namibia holiday that includes a visit to this establishment will contribute to the survival of Namibia’s big cats and is ideal for getting up close to these large predators!
