Kenya Family Safari Holidays

Tailormade Family Holidays to Enjoy the Wildlife and Beaches of East Africa

Rolling savannah, glowing sunsets and wildlife rich plains are what most of us picture when we think of Kenya; and you won’t be disappointed. Fitting theLion Cubs, Kenya Safari ‘Classic Africa’ image, Kenya is bound to give both you and your young ones the experience of your lifetime and watching the mixture of excitement and pure adrenaline on their first lion encounter is just priceless!

Between July and November, the Great Migration in the Masai Mara means some spectacular wildlife sightings for the entire family as millions of wildebeest and zebra swarm the plains, under the watchful eye of the big cats and crocodiles. But this is not the only time this incredible area is good for wildlife, in fact Kenya has a higher concentration of game than Tanzania throughout the year, and the parks are smaller. Smaller parks means shorter drive times – and less ‘are we there yet?’ from the kids in the back – although it is possible to get from lodge to lodge, and park to park, via light aircraft, eliminating hefty drives altogether. So the only ones you will do are out on safari as you watch the stories of the Africa savannah unfold before your eyes…

The Masai people are well known for being fantastic with children and there will be no lack of activities to keep them entertained. From making their own bow and arrows, catching and studying butterflies and joining in a traditional rain dance, to planting trees, learning about the local fauna (such as the toothbrush tree), tracking animals and riding camels. Some lodges and camps even provide bush treasure hunts and mini walking safaris just for your young ones, all with English speaking, knowledgeable and fun guides!

Renting your own ‘house’ is a great idea for families and big groups and means that you will have your very own accommodation in the bush. Acacia House, Mara House and Topi House have been designed for that perfect family safari and have unrivalled access to the Mara. You can make the most of having your very own private driver/guide and chef and have access to a swimming pool, great for some relaxation under the hot African sun. There is also the spectacular Lewa Wilderness Lodge which actively encourages younger guests, keeping them entertained if you want some ‘adult only’ time, without losing any of that luxury one expects from a Kenyan safari. Or for something wholly unique, stay at Giraffe Manor where you will be joined over the breakfast by hungry giraffes.

Kenya is a superb destination for adventurous families looking for that ultimate African experience. Young people can enjoy anything from feeding giraffes and learning rain dances to game drives, balloon safaris and making friends with the local Masai children, not just a fun experience, but an educational one too. With such great wildlife diversity, fantastic guides, fabulous accommodation and easy travel, we can think of few things to beat it!
