Elsa's Kopje Lodge, Meru National Park

Elsa's Kopje Lodge

Elsa’s Kopje, located in Meru National Park, is named after Elsa the lioness, made famous by George and Joy Adamson’s biographical book and film “Born Free”. The camp has a wonderful position on Mughwango Hill over looking the plains and bush below, as well as the site of George Adamson’s original campsite. Pictures in camp remind you that on the very same rocks you wander around Elsa played and surveyed her world.

The lodge rises up from and blends in seamlessly into the rocky crags of the “kopje” (small hill) with each cottage spaciously situated around the Kopje to give spectacular views of the surrounding plains; the ultimate ‘room-with-a-view’. Every cottage is uniquely designed and crafted, incorporating the natural features of the rocky hillside, offering spacious double or twin beds with ensuite, elegantly appointed bathrooms. Most have baths and showers and some even have an outside bath to soak in while admiring the views.

The main lodge area has an open bar, with a comfortable lounge area and dining room. Dinning is often moved outside to enjoy dinner under the stars. There is also an exceptionally inviting infinity swimming pool overlooking the Meru plains.

Activities: day & night game drives, guided bush walks, bush meals, sundowners, Boran tribal community visits, line fishing, massage and access to 44 km sq Rhino Sanctuary
