Wildlife to View in Brazil

Jaguar, Cayman, Anaconda, Howler Monkeys and Giant River Otters

Brazil is more famous for such destinations as Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Iguassu Falls and the Amazon Jungle than the wildlife viewing area of the Pantanal. This is the largest wetland in the world and is home to numerous animals and birds. Jaguar StalkingMost of the Pantanal consists of cattle farms, but there are pockets of wildlife areas where animals abound and it is to these areas that we will send you. Wildlife in the Pantanal includes anteaters, howler monkeys, jaguars, giant river otters, caimans, anacondas, ocelots and capybara along with a host of colourful and exotic birds.

The wetlands of the Pantanal are a haven for birders with highlights including the hyacinth macaw, numerous colourful parrots and large flocks of jabiru storks. Another highlight of the Pantanal is the infamous piranha fish which live in the rivers and lakes and feed on any unsuspecting animals that venture into the water.

The Amazon Jungle is another natural highlight where you can view the wildlife during your Brazilian vacation. Brazil has the largest tract of the Amazon jungle and the longest part of the Amazon River making it an ideal destination for wildlife viewing. It is a little harder to see animals in the jungle due to the thick vegetation but they are still out there. Pink river dolphins, “Jesus” lizards, caimans and a host of birds are often seen on boat trips along the waterways of the Amazon. Different species of monkeys are common in the jungle and with canopy walkways and viewing platforms at most lodges it is easier to see these arboreal primates. With so many different animal and bird species in Brazil you will not be disappointed about the wildlife to be found during your Brazilian holiday.
