Style: An intimate, luxury eco-camp.
Setting: Set in a spectacular grove of ancient baobab trees and surrounded by papyrus beds, this low-environmental-impact camp has been built using commercially grown wood and recycled tin cans, collected by the local community - a fee was paid for every can.
Named after the Victorian explorer and artist, Thomas Baines, Baines' Camp is situated on the Boro River in a 1,050km2 private concession adjoining the Moremi Reserve - a superb area for game watching.
Accommodation & facilities: The communal area is built on raised wooden decking around a termite mound, overlooking the lagoon - a fantastic spot for viewing game, all year round.
The communal swimming pool at Baines' Camp is perfect for cooling off in the heat of the day, and the wide wooden deck that surrounds the main dining and sitting room is the perfect place to relax, while observing hippos snorting and lions prowling by the lagoon.
Dining: Excellent cuisine served in either indoor or outside dining areas, with a good selection of wines.
Activities: Day and night-time safaris operate in 4x4 vehicles. Walking safaris are also offered, with the opportunity of walking in the bush with three semi-habituated elephants.
Mokoro (dugout canoe) and motorboat trips operate when waters levels are sufficiently high (June - September).
